There are Bikram teacher certifications from California to South Africa, from Canada to Nepal. Bikram yoga is a little different than some other styles of yoga since Birkam Choudhury essentially ‘copywrited’ his style of yoga, and only Bikram certified teachers that have trained at one of his trademarked facilities can teach a ‘Bikram’ yoga class.
Bikram has his own Yoga College of India, but its headquarters is now in California. He tours the globe doing book signings, talks and teaches, keeping a schedule more like a rock star than a yoga teacher. Upcoming appearances include Phuket, Thailand, Montreal, Canada, Northville, Michigan, Arizona, California, Mexico City, Ireland, Israel and Hungary. Although these are more seminars and events rather than full teacher trainings, you can get a better feel for Birkam before deciding to invest a whopping $11,000 for the certification course. Some of the money goes toward accommodations and the tuition is around $7,000. You are required to pay the full amount in advance.
Traditionally, only the 26 primary postures of beginning Bikram will be introduced in a teacher training. The next is schedule in Los Angeles, California from April to June in 2012.
