Choosing a Yoga Style and Teacher Training School in Thailand

Choosing the right yoga style and teacher training school in Thailand can be easier than you think. All it takes is a little research. Two important things can help you make the right choice. The first thing is to find out something about the different yoga styles. The second is to check out the success rate of the school you’re considering.

Popular Yoga Styles
There are a number of different yoga styles you can train for in Thailand. Among the traditional yoga styles that originated in India are Ashtanga, Integral and Iyengar. Now they’re known all over the globe. Contemporary yoga styles like Hot Yoga/Bikram, Yin Yoga and Power Yoga have also become extremely popular. These contemporary styles are still rooted in traditional yoga methods. Hatha yoga is a slightly different style that has a big fan base in the United States. Hatha differs in the sense that it places more emphasis on breathing and poses than on meditation.

You can learn to teach these and other styles of yoga in Thailand. Remember to consider the primary method associated with the different styles. For Example:

Vinyasa Flow
This yoga technique uses a flowing style that requires you to move or “flow” from one pose to another in sequence. This method is used while focusing attention on your breathing.

Power Yoga
This style of yoga involves a fast-paced, sweaty routine. It is a method that provides a great cardiovascular workout. This heart-pumping yoga style is excellent for weight loss.

Alignment Focused
Anusara and similar styles of yoga devote specific attention to the exact positioning of the body. This method is the most adamant about properly positioning the body. The focus is on safely imitating the exact pose for maximum benefit.

The Yoga Style for You
Which style do you personally enjoy? Which one do you feel most passionate about? Can you envision yourself discussing and teaching the related poses? Ask yourself: “What do I get out of yoga and what do I want my students to get from it?” When you answer these thought-provoking questions, you’ll have a better idea of what style you want to teach.

Also remember that not everyone enjoys the same style of yoga. It’s a mistake to think it really doesn’t matter, when deciding on the yoga style you want to teach. As a yoga instructor, passion is one of the most important qualities you can possess. You should love and feel passionate about the style of yoga you teach. Don’t base your decision on the popularity of the style. If you don’t give it proper consideration you will end up teaching a style that is not really right for you.

Qualified Training Schools
After choosing a style of yoga, you’ll be ready to investigate some yoga teacher training schools. There are quite a few highly reputable ones in Thailand. You can make sure the yoga school is properly accredited by looking for their “RYS” designation. These letters indicate that the school is a Registered Yoga School with the proper certification. Schools like Absolute Yoga Samui have been approved by Yoga Alliance, the largest accreditation board in existence.

Successful Graduates
When deciding on a Thailand yoga training school, check out the instructors and their backgrounds. You should also consider the success of the school’s graduates. Absolute Yoga Samui has RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) certified instructors with extensive yoga backgrounds. Additionally, the school has a public directory listing hundreds of successful graduates. Many teach in studios, gyms and fitness centers internationally. Some have also stayed on in Thailand to teach yoga.

Hot yoga is among the popular styles of yoga mentioned above. Have you decided on Hot Yoga as the style you want to learn how to teach? Absolute Yoga Samui has an excellent program. Don’t miss the upcoming related article on Hot Yoga and why it is so popular.
