There are Ashtanga centers considered to be Vinyasa, but specifically Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga centers are from the lineage of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, and they are located all over the world, from the United States, Asia, Europe, Mexico, South America, Australia and New Zealand and Canada. There are even travelling Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Trainings led by teachers who specialize in taking Ashtanga all over the world.

If, however, you are interested in simply Vinyasa Yoga Training Centers, that is the looser form of ‘flow’ yoga coined in the US in the early 1980s, then there are even more centers to choose from. Considering that the ‘flow’ of yoga has been interpreted quite beautifully by teachers incorporating even martial arts and Thai Chi and Qi Gong, its sister modalities of training the mind and body, you can rally have fun finding a Vinyasa class or teacher training that keeps you moving and your breath focused.

The underlying tenant of all Vinyasa yoga is that there are never any stagnant poses. All postures are joined with the breath. No movement happens without this beautiful union, as yoga instructs through its very definition in Sanskrit – to ‘yoke’ – joining breath, mind and body. In our deepest center and most etheric form, there is no separation between the subtle and the causal, or in non-yogic terms, the seen and unseen. Vinyasa Yoga Training Centers always aim at teaching this premise, no matter what the style of the teacher is, or where they were trained, whether they practice a pure, Hatha yoga with flow, or if they incorporate other mindful traditions.

In opposition, or more, as an expansion of other yoga practices, Vinyasa yoga is like water running through two hands. You cannot grasp the water too tightly, or it all flows away. Similarly, you practice moving while holding and releasing breath to support chi or prana, the life force of the body. Yogic traditions like Iyengar, or Bikram, will concentrate on holding postures for a longer time and working on correct alignment, while Vinyasa yoga will concentrate on keeping the mind steady and the breath even while you move consistently. The practice is often considered a greater cardiovascular workout for this reason, but every Vinyasa Yoga Center will have their own pace of movement, and honor people starting from a beginning level to the most advanced students, seeking high-levels of training.

There are literally thousands of Vinyasa Yoga Training Centers throughout the world, so you can search for one in a particular area, perhaps a place you will be vacationing, or find one in your own backyard.
