Is a career in Yoga a new direction to take in your life ?

Is a career in yoga a new direction to take in your life? Do you feel worn out and tired of ‘business as usual’? Do you feel like there is a higher calling awaiting you and you just need to find out how you can help people feel better? Are you naturally a sensitive person wanting to help the planet, the environment, people who are sick or unhealthy? Are you patient and persevering? Are you fascinated with meditation, alternative lifestyles and healthy living? If you answered yes to any of these questions a yoga teacher training may be just the thing to take your life in a new direction.

If you read stories about people who entered the field of yoga teaching, you will find many inspiring but different takes on the path of a yogi. Some people enter into yoga teaching as a means to give back what they have gained. There have been famous yogis who restored their own health, suffering from cancer, debilitating spinal diseases and car crashes. Others enter the field of yoga having had a profound spiritual experience that made them realize that life was too short not to stay connected to the essence beneath all the chaos of life. Still others turned to yoga simply as a way to stay in shape and improve their physical bodies, but found it also affected them in other profoundly positive ways, and then couldn’t help but want to share that feeling with other students of yoga.

If you are looking for a new direction in life, know that the yogic path is not an easy one, but it is rewarding in ways you cannot even conceive of when you start the journey. Even if you don’t end up teaching full time, you can still teach one or two classes a week and make a difference in people’s lives. You will also make a difference in your own though. Yoga is life changing, and it is nearly impossible to sip lightly from its cup. Once you have a taste you will more than likely feel as though you need to drink the entire elixir. Yoga is that phenomenal.

If you are considering taking on yoga as a career, you can start with a more in depth practice of your own. If you are only practicing a few days a week, increase your discipline to a daily practice, and see how you feel. If you are going to teach yoga you will need to be immersed in it, in order to become a great teacher. If you feel comfortable practicing every day, then it is a good sign that a career in yoga may be right for you. You can also inquire into yoga teacher trainings in your area, or even trainings that are intensive month or year-long sessions where you learn the art of yoga as many diverse traditions and paths. No matter what you decide, your career in yoga is likely to make lifelong changes in you for the better that you and others around you will notice. The light within you shines brightest when you are in your own joy and yoga increase this feeling of joy. Embrace it.
